The MUSIC SCENE in Buenos Aires is easily comparable with London, Montreal, New York City or San Francisco.  Live music is found everywhere in the city and can satisfy whatever your tastes crave. Uncover the city’s musical talent at a bar near you.  Local bands playing rock, reggae, jazz and folklore are a common occurrence here, or head to Luna Park or Samsung Studios for the bigger international shows.

If it’s underground you’re after there is a great website that has it’s whole arm on the pulse as far as new music in Buenos Aires is concerned – PROYECTOUNDER.COM – it’s in spanish but reasonably easy to decipher, and lucky we have put all the good stuff on our event calendar.

or for:

R E G G A E – Makena Club (Fitzroy in Palermo hollywood has Reggae on a regular basis, ladedios.com.ar has a comprehensive agenda.

T A N G O – Head to La Catedral – one of the most well known places – you can chose to sit back and watch or get amongst it.  Bar de Roberto in Almargro (Bulnes 331), is a small,  modest tango bar straight out of the 1930’s.  It was the launching pad for most famous argentine tango singers and every night patrons are serenaded by the owner.  A couple of years ago it was a bit of a hidden gem but now the cats pretty much out of the bag.  It opens reasonably early and you should go at this time as it’s tiny and hard to find a seat.

F O L K L O R E – Folklore Festivals are best to get a taste of this unique Argentine style of music, head here for the agenda for folklore festivals in BA: folk-ar.com.ar

Apart from this Pena de Colorado (Guemes 3657) is a laid back location to enjoy a bit of folklore with your empanada.  Bar Guevara (Humberto Primo 463 @ Defensa) hosts something called Pena Pop every tuesday night which is casual jam session that puts a modern poppy twist on folklore.

R O C K  N A T I O N A L – Argentines are patriotic when it comes to their rock.  The greats, Charlie Garcia, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Luca Prodan, amongst many others, are like Gods here.  Check here for what’s going on in the world of rock nacional – rock.com.ar – apart from this Mitos Argentinos (Humberto Primo 489, San Telmo) has original tunes, as well as rock nacional cover bands, blues and even tango on Sundays. Notorious (Callao 966) is well known for good rock nacional and jazz.
